There’s a quiet kind of confidence that comes from doing something you love for most of your life. For Sher Unbound, sewing isn’t just a skill — it’s a calling. A passion that began when she was just 11 years old, stitching together her first dress and jacket, has grown into over 15 years of professional expertise and a lifetime of soulful craftsmanship.
“My first project was a dress with a matching jacket,” Sher recalls. “I entered it into a young seamstress contest at JCPenney’s. We had to model the outfit we made — and I took second place!” She wore that dress until it practically fell apart. That early win sparked something deeper: a lifelong relationship with fabric, fit, and form.
Though she explored craft sewing, it never truly resonated. “I don’t mind doing crafts,” she says, “but they’re not my thing. My real love has always been garments, fitting things properly, making people feel great in what they wear.”
A Professional Journey — and a Personal One
Sher launched her alterations business around 2014–2015, having sewn privately and passionately for many years before that. “Professionally, it’s been 15 years. But really, I’ve been sewing most of my life.”
Her knowledge runs deep. “If there’s something I don’t know, I look it up. I’ve got an entire library of tailoring books — everything from how patterns work to men’s tailoring techniques.” Her home is filled with shelves of sewing wisdom and years of lived experience.
But this journey hasn’t been without pause.
After the death of her husband and the onset of COVID-19, Sher made the difficult decision to sell her previous business and take a step back. “It was part grief, part necessity. I needed time to heal and find myself again.”
During that time, she committed to her inner work, a quiet, essential process that helped her slowly rebuild. “It was a big emotional commitment to start again. I had to decide: could I really do this again? Would people come? Could I let strangers back into my home when I’d been so isolated?”
The answer was yes — and it came with purpose.

More Than Just a Seamstress
Today, Sher’s clients describe her space as calm, welcoming, and refreshingly human. “I want people to feel like they’re walking into a family member’s home. I try to create an environment that feels warm, safe, and relaxed.”
And it shows. Her business, now based in her hometown, has quickly become a trusted part of the local community. She’s known for her precision, her care, and her honesty.
Whether it’s a last-minute fix, a formal gown alteration, or a sentimental piece with a story, Sher approaches every garment with dedication and respect. “People sometimes wonder why I took a break. This article is my way of saying: I never stopped loving this work. I just needed to come home to it, in my own time.”
Tailoring Dreams One Stitch at a Time
Through all the changes, one thing remains constant: Sher’s commitment to doing meaningful work. Not just sewing — tailoring dreams, one stitch at a time.
She brings more than expertise to each project. She brings life experience, emotional intelligence, and a deep respect for the people and stories behind every garment.
“If you’re looking for someone who understands not just clothes, but people too — I’d be honoured to work with you.”
